That is so funny. I remember the piano, but never anyone in their slip haha. Thinking about the little kid with the scissors, just how bored does a child have to be to decide "I think I'm gonna give myself a haircut" during the middle of a meeting. I used to change answers at the written review too, lightening hasn't struck me dead yet!

My eyes were opened several years ago but it was Ray Franz that validated in black and white everything I thought was wrong with the organization. After reading (devouring) his book, I was able to sleep at night, his book is still on my nightstand as my security blanket. I have a friend on the way out, and I tell her "you ain't out until you read this". I wish and hope that all of our thoughts of gratitude, love and appreciation are somehow a security and comfort to this dear man and his wife at this time. NMKA

Has anyone had a WT literature burning party?
by lepermessiah ini keep staring at the bookshelf full of wt literature in my house and keep having visions of a red-orange glow as the flames crawl higher and higher.
my goal is to gather it all together, douse it with lighter fluid, and watch it go!.
ultimately, i dream of my wife being the one who strikes the match and joins me in the celebration.. has anyone had that experience?

Well, not really a party, just my husband and I standing over are fire pit watching them go up in smoke. He went to the memorial that year and didn't even have a bible or song book. We have friends that are now "exiting" so maybe we can have a real party with their 192 pg books!

by lesabre intomorrow is my birthday!
:) i've "been out" for 5 years, and my inlaws have thrown me b-day parties for all 5 of those years.
when i was a kid, my mom always said she didn't really think anything wrong with making your birthday a special day.

My parents were born in, so birthdays are and always were a non event. Same for my husband and his family. My poor kids didn't exactly get great grand parents. We are trying to make it up to them! NMKA

What a great story and thanks for sharing. You are so brave, sometimes I get mad at my 17 year old self and think why didn't you run? But I was afraid. What an inspiration! NMKA

Are You Still attending Meetings? If so read on.......
by cantleave inok - i couldn't keep away from this board - but i lasted longer than a week (outlaw!).
here i am sitting in the sun on a beautiful sunday afternoon drinking beer catching up with the posts on this board.
i just had to write a message to anyone still attending meetings, despite knowing that they are a forum to propagate lies and deceit.

Cantleave, I do think you offer great advice. We stopped all at once 5/08. If I would have tried to fade they would have really bothered us, then you get all the dumb questions at every meeting, "are you OK?", "we miss you". We have gotten a few Saturday/ Sunday 1130-1230 visits, really very predictable. You are right they are too lazy and occupied with other problems (like the whole thing falling apart) to worry too much about us.
Life is indeed too short to spend one beautiful Saturday or Sunday doing something you no longer believe in. Our families are not thrilled and don't associate with us anymore so I guess my worth to them was only based on being in the organization anyway. We have several friends that are attempting to leave now too and it seems to be the best method, at least for us. NMKA

I go to a local gym about twice a week in the summer and 3-4 times a week in the winter. I love the elliptical (30-50min) then about 20-30 min of weights. NMKA

Hi Thor and Mrs Thor, glad you had the courage to walk. I couldn't do the slow fade either, just rip that band aid off, the best way. It's so nice that you have your family with you. NMKA

TRUTHS to live by

1. i think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

Love the list! With, the exception of #27, pants get dirty boys, they go right over the dirty filthy underwear ,that thin layer of cotton is not enough protection! You can come over and we will wash your pants with the sheets (#5) and I will show you how to fold them all. NMKA

How long will I be an exJW vs a fomer JW?
by AllTimeJeff indrew sagan in a recent post (he recently graduated college) said this, something that i agree with and frankly, think about often.
to those of you who feel that you need to "help others" in the watchtower i give you this word of caution.
be careful, because that may simply be an excuse you are using to remain stuck in the past.

Jeff, so sorry to hear about your Mom, that was great simple advice, to be happy.
Depending on how invested we were in "the truth", how much family we still have in, gauges how much it still effects us. With us, our whole family is "in". We are having our son's birthday party this weekend at another home, so that we are not seen. Witnesses were at our door this morning, as they often are, so I had the kids shutting the drapes and being quiet, the neighbor kid was here and looked at us like we were crazy. Very close friends are trying to get out, we are supporting them but you kind of re- live those stages all over again. So, I don't think we dwell on, it doesn't interfere with my overall happiness, but it's an annoyance that is always there. It leaves a mark. NMKA
